He knows, he knew the first time he stuck his tongue out at a saber at like, age five; he has Known, and now he is more than happy to play the sorting game instead. He's here for art and literature classes, although not so much the cultivation - but he's not going to spoil Shen Yuan's fun with exposition by whining about that. Or wondering too strongly if the problem with Nie cultivation would stalk him all the way to these many peaks and their, hm, themes?
Themed clans is such a quaint concept. Like it's from a book or something.
"Shen-xiong is a credit to his Qing Jing Peak's training," he says, leaning his chin in his hand and raising an eyebrow slowly. A gentleman, besides all those silly faces he makes, and the fussy voice he uses? It's endearing, though.
"What are Xian Shu Peak's restrictions?" For the elegant and sensitive- which, wow- huh. Hmm. Make his day.
Heh, yes, 'training,' that thing Shen Yuan definitely got and hasn't just been bullshitting this entire time. That's definitely a thing he has in his background. :B And speaking of silly faces and fussy voices...
"Traditionally, Xian Shu has restricted its membership to young ladies only," he says, voice honey-sweet and butter-smooth. "Perhaps Nie-gongzi could have convinced them to break the trend!" Of course he's just teasing, he's sure Huaisang-di is a perfectly masculine man in some way or another, probably.
Luckily for Shen Yuan, this is the Nie brother who does not care one whit about how masculine (or not) he's perceived. He blinks at Shen Yuan for a second, sizing him up and determining that he is probably not trying to be insulting here - and therefore is not high on machismo, which means: it's funny. He does indeed laugh, and if it's a giggle pitched higher than his natural laugh might be, for the sake of the bit, then yes: it definitely is.
"Is their motto something like, 'Unparalleled Beauty'? That kind of association would flatter this one immeasurably." As long as he could just, like, chill prettily, and not have to do sword practice. He's noticing "ladies only" is the only feature here, not "no sword practice."
"But I don't know... Art classes sound invigorating."
Shen Yuan laughs as well, both because 'lol you could be a girl' is tragically still the kind of joke he finds funny and because Huaisang-di is just too adorable for words. He's like a silly little sheep! Shen Yuan wants to protect and coddle him and pat his hair.
Unfortunately, Xian Shu still insists on sword practice.
"If Nie-gongzi would like, he can always show this one some of his paintings sometime, and this master will give him constructive criticism," Shen Yuan offers kindly, as he starts pouring things into other things and arranging them on a tray. "How's this?" he asks, recalling Huaisang's offer to 'fix' the tray and placing it in front of him for inspection.
As a cute little sheep, Huaisang should be excused from sword practice - that's his opinion, anyway. Sheep don't need swords, something something, shearing? Would Shen Yuan let his imaginary disciple-in-law who is actually a sect leader be sheared, metaphorically speaking?
The interest in his art is a good move, anyway. The pleased look he gives Shen Yuan is genuine in its warmth, even as he reaches over to shift some things around on the tray immediately. Tut tut.
"I hope you like landscapes." And birds. And monochrome. Huaisang knows what he likes, certainly. As for Shen Yuan, being interested in art, making this tea spread... Should he say it? He's going to say it. "Shen-xiong suits er-ge and san-ge. That's good!"
Those two big brothers of his have like one friend each and it's each other, so.
Shen Yuan will definitely protect Huaisang from all shearing attempts, it's a deal. This is a sheep that's staying nice and fluffy and cute, and no he isn't projecting any unprocessed feelings from his past, that's ridiculous.
"Landscapes are fine," he says. He can introduce Huaisang to the concept of 'waifus' later. He does blink slightly in confusion, at the 'suits' his brothers comment. Huaisang must mean that in a friend way, right? Right?
"Lan-gongzi and Jin-gongzi are good men," he says, feeling a little uncertain and off-kilter for some reason beyond his comprehension. "This one is pleased to have made their acquaintance." And he certainly hopes it will continue! He already owes Jin-ge so much for his kindness, and Lan Xichen technically saved his life, or at least several hours of inconvenience. Shen Yuan will do his best to be a good friend in turn.
He takes the tray back with an awkward little bow of his head. "Anyway, I should take this to Jin-gongzi. Be right back." Shen Yuan away~~
